Module 3 Weather and Climate

Focus on:

  • Name the major factors that influence South Africa’s Weather. (Oceans, Altitude, Latitude)
  • Be able to identify The Benguela (West) and Agulhas (East) currents on a map, and know in which direction they flow.
  • Air pressure cells- explain the difference between high and low pressure cells and be able to name their characteristics.
  • Be able to explain warm or cold fronts  – what they are and associated weather.
  • Know where in southern Africa we can get Tropical Cyclones (Mozambique coast)
  • Types of Wind – Berg Winds are NB for short Questions.
  • Cloud formation – know what the 2 main criteria is or naming clouds (Shape and Height)
  • Clouds – know which clouds indicate rain (Cuminolumbus and Nimbostratus)
  • Explain why cumulous clouds have flat bases (it is the level of where Dew Point is reached)
